Version 3.21 has been submitted for review and should be available shortly. It contains the following fixes:
- Fixed slowness on Storm Detail and Effect Chooser screens
- Clock brightness adjustment now uses the hardware brightness function on iOS 5.0+ for devices that support it
- Full screen clock view now supports changing the brightness by swiping up and down
- Support for iOS 4.2+ added for the iPhone 3G holdouts
- Bug Report has updated UI to make it easier to use and now requires you to enter something before sending
- Store now lets you know when new items are available
- Various bug fixes
Next Update In Progress
The next update is in progress. I don't yet know what features will make it in but here are a few possibilities. Please reply to this post and let me know if there is one specific feature you would really like to see:
- Restore compatibility with iOS 4.2
- Improve scrolling speed of UI
- Use hardware screen brightness support if available on clock view
- Swipe up/down to change brightness on clock view
- Use camera LED to flash for lightning strikes (optional)
- Rework bug reporting to require more info to submit a bug report (I currently get empty bug reports every day which clogs my inbox)
- Rework effect settings screen to use a standard settings view (more like the clock settings or options screens)
- Various improvements to the audio engine to allow even more realistic audio
Quick Note on the Latest Update
The latest update requires iOS 4.3+ so you may need to update your device before updating Storm Sim. Apologies to anyone affected by this.
Storm Sim 3.15 Now Available
Update 3.15 is now available in the App Store. The fixed items:
- Fixed crashing on iOS 5.1 when in background or screen locked
- Sleep timer can now be set in landscape orientation on iPad (on iPhone/iPod you still must be in Portrait to set sleep timer)
- Accessibility improvements for visually impaired users
- When downloading a purchased product, alert now tells you where to find the added effects. This was -by far- the #1 bug report.
Fix For iOS 5.1 Crashing Submitted
A new version has been submitted to Apple, it should resolve the crashing problems under iOS 5.1 (where Storm Sim shuts off when the screen is locked). It should be available soon.
Issues after updating to iOS 5.1
Some users are reporting that Storm Sim no longer plays in the background when switching apps or shuts off after 30 seconds. I am looking into this but we just got married and my Honeymoon is this week so please be patient.
This appears to be a bug in iOS but I should know more soon.
Current Status
Just a quick word - still getting married soon and still really busy but I have actually started checkin in Storm Sim changes so work is progressing on the next version. I hope to have more updates soon.
Quick Update
Sorry I've been lacking on updates. I am getting married soon and have some other projects going on so my free time is somewhat limited for the next few months but I haven't forgotten about Storm Sim.
I am preparing a new bug submission process; currently they come in as emails and I have way too many to be able to track and respond to them. I'm sorry if I haven't gotten back to you yet! The new system will issue tickets so you can request status updates and know when the issue has been fixed.
I am preparing an update to Storm Sim but I don't know when it will be out... certainly before the end of the year.
Where Did All the Downloads Go?
I am getting a regular trickle of bug reports from people who say they paid for a download pack but can't see it anywhere in the program so I thought I'd take a minute to clarify since not every download pack includes new storms, many are sound effects only.
To find your new sound effects, go to the Library screen and tap the "+" button to add a new storm. Then tap "+" to add a new effect to your new storm. Now you should see the effects from the pack you just bought. You can also copy an existing storm and add these new effects to the copy to get things just the way you want them.
Still Here!
Hey folks, I'm still here and still hard at work. Things have been really hectic in other areas of my life but I have a couple of bug reports on Storm Sim and I hope to have another update out before the end of the year to fix those issues. I'm also thinking of some ways to increase the realism and customization possibilities in a future update so stay tuned!
I know I hate it when a developer just leaves an app sitting out there with no updates and I have no intention of letting that happen. Expect more updates soon!
P.S. for some reason, people are tapping the 'Report a Bug' option then tapping 'Send' without filling in anything. I'm not sure why that is but I will definitely be changing that feature in the next release. I'm tired of having several blank emails in my inbox every morning
